"Why should someone study Technology Management (rather than Business Administration or General Management)?"

The pace of technological change and disruption continues to increase.  Today, technology is essential to running nearly every business, not just traditional high tech businesses. Indeed, nearly every facet of modern business requires skillful use of the latest technology.

The successful manager for the 21 st century must be technologically adept and business savvy.  Neither alone is sufficient. It is the ability to anticipate, adapt and integrate the right technology that makes businesses successful today, and it requires a new breed of business leader with new skills to make that happen.

Unlike the study of General Management or Business Administration, Technology Management places primary emphasis on the study of the uses of technology to drive innovation, strategy, product and service development, process innovation, IT systems and operation. Other traditional aspects of management (finance, accounting, economics, marketing, sales, human resource management are integral to the study of Technology Management, but they are secondary to the study of the uses of technology for creating value in business.

It is the mission of the Howe School of Technology Management at Stevens Institute to educate leaders who know how to exploit technology to tackle business problems.

"Technology is changing everything. Exploit technology"
