Expectations have never been higher for knowledgeable leaders to leverage information technology (IT) to more effectively deliver healthcare. This 4-course graduate certificate offered by the Howe School of Technology Management includes four new courses that have been designed to provide the healthcare IT (HIT) knowledge for developing, acquiring, and implementing effective IT solutions for healthcare providers in in-patient and ambulatory settings, including patient-centered programs for healthcare management.
For healthcare professionals with minimal or no IT experience, MGT 679 sections designed specifically for the healthcare professional, can be substituted for MIS 685.

“Best practices” for reducing barriers to clinical system adoption
Trends in evidence-based systems, including those that bridge clinicians & scientists

The impacts of widespread Internet use and Web 2.0 applications
Hospital-sponsored patient portals and 3rd-party personal health records (PHRs)
Telehealth applications for diagnoses, disease monitoring, and behavior modification
Emerging trends in multimedia and AI tools for patient-centered programs
“Best practices” for online patient communications and homehealth monitoring
Objective:
To provide graduate MIS courses to better prepare students for IT-related careers in the healthcare industry. This certificate program also responds to the anticipated growth in demand for professionals working in healthcare delivery settings: 40,000 new HIT jobs over the next several years have been forecast (AHIMA Report, 04.21.2008).
