Die-Hard Team Wins 2008 Student Project of the Year Award from the NJ Chapter of the Project Management Institute

The New Jersey Chapter of the Project Management Institute selected the "Die-Hard" team (Team Digby) from the EMTM 15 Hoboken class as the winner of the 2008 PMI Student Project of the Year Award. The team consisting of Eslam Ayoub, Kevin Welly, Emilio (Ralph) Barca and Ed Torres, won the award for their paper entitled 'Project Live Free' in which the team applied the principles of Strategic Project Management to a quality inititiative at Sprint to improve the percentage of completed calls.

The Award was presented to them at the June 17 meeting of the NJ Chapter of the PMI at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany NJ, which was also attended by Murrae Bowden Director of the EMTM program, and Professor Aaron Shenhar who teaches the Project Management and Leadership class in the EMTM program. The presentationn was well received by the audience of over 200 people attending the meeting. This is the fourth year in a row that teams from Professor Shenhar's class have been selected for this Award. Congratulations to Eslam, Ralph, Ed and Kevin.

August 2, 2008 - EMTM Leadership Workout - Learning from the Leaders

EMTM alumni are invited to join in a special EMTM event on Saturday, August 2 dedicated to leadership. The event -"The EMTM Leadership Workout - Learning From Leaders" is focused on understanding what makes famous leaders unique. The idea is that different leaders have their own "secrets of success." Learning the uniqueness of different leaders may help each one of us, as students of leadership, adopt what works best for each individual.

The leadership workout is the final meeting of the course "Project Management and Leadership" in the EMTM Program on Saturday August 2, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Babbio Center Room 122 on the Stevens Campus. See schedule.

Through student research and guest presentations the theory, lessons, and practices of leadership, as used by prominent leaders in business, religion, and politics will be discussed. 

their personal experience. Our guest speaker this year was Josh S. Weston, former Chairman and CEO of ADP - Automated Data Processing, a $10B company. It was a very engaging day.

2008 EMTM/EMBA Graduate Student Awards for Outstanding Academic Achievement

The 2008 Graduate Student Awards for Outstanding Academic Achievement were presented at the Provost’s Banquet for Graduating Graduate Students on Friday, May 16, 2008. These awards are given to students who excelled academically and demonstrated professional promise and leadership. The awardees from this year's graduating EMBA and EMTM classes are 

  • EMBA Graduate Student Award (Returning EMTM Alumnus): Eugene Parrella
  • EMBA Graduate Student Award:  Suzanne Mutz-Darwell
  • EMTM Graduate Student Award (On Campus): Tamara Wainer
  • EMTM Graduate Student Award (Off Campus): Swati Chiney

 Gene is Vice President for IC Design at Ibiquity Digital Corporation and graduated from the EMTM program in 2006.  Suzanne is Director of Marketing at National Starch and graduated from the EMTM program in 2007. Tamara is Director for Global Risk Management at KPMG. Swati is Product Manager/Systems Engineer at StarTrak LLC, an Alanco Company.

 

Also recognized at the Graduate Awards dinner was Rabiya Sood, the winner of the 2008 Howe School Graduate Student Service Award. Rabiya received the award  for her extensive service and contributions to the EMTM  program where she has been a TA since summer 2006.   Edison Cruz, who is also a TA in the EMTM department,  received an Honorable Mention. Both Rabiya and Edison will graduate from Stevens at the end of 2008.
