Performance and Economics of Telecommunications Networks (PerfEcTNet®) Research Group
PerfEcTNet® Research Group was formed by Dr. Fotios C. Harmantzis , Assistant Research Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology, in 2003. It attracts researchers, post-doctoral and graduate students with interest in telecommunications networks and multi-interdisciplinary background: engineering, science, management, economics and finance. The main research themes are in economics of networks, e.g., pricing methodologies, financials of the sector, etc., performance analysis, and investment decision making. The research contributions target well recognized journals and international conferences in the field. We work on establishing relations with the industry as well as other research groups in the country and abroad. We also encourage visitors to spend time here conducting research, enjoying the life of metro New York .
Financial Analytics Research Group (FinA®)
FinA R Research Group was formed by Dr. Fotios C. Harmantzis , Assistant Research Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology, in 2004. It attracts academics and practitioners with strong interests in global financial markets and analytical views on research. People with different backgrounds, e.g., economics and finance, risk and insurance, science and engineering, who share a passion for the capital markets and their institutions, are welcome. Currently, the main research focus is on stochastic modeling , risk management and quantitative investment strategies . Due to our proximity to the biggest financial center of the world, we have an open dialogue with people in the Street and other academic institutions in the New York metropolitan area.
TeleManagement Forum
The TeleManagement Forum (TM Forum) is a non-profit global organization that provides leadership, strategic guidance and practical solutions to improve the management and operation of information and communications services. The membership of over 400 companies comprises incumbent and new-entrant service providers, computing and network equipment suppliers, software solution suppliers and customers of communications services. TM Forum has been contributing to the Information and Communications Services (ICS) Industry for over 15 years. The University Program is designed to establish a vibrant academic community in TM Forum related areas, which encourages the exchange of know-how, both between TMFU members and other TM Forum groupings, as well as amongst TMFU members. The TMF University Program plays an important part to: - Facilitate an extended university program of pre- and post- graduate students interested in OSS/BSS via TM Forum's extensive web facilities so that students can know of each others' work / interests,
- Provide assistance, guidance and encouragement in the use and application of TM Forum agreements, guidelines and materials by academics in their teaching and research activities,
- Seek synergistic ways to promote the work of universities who are TM Forum members within the TM Forum and vice versa; for example, a universities' stream at a TeleManagement World,
- Recruit universities as TM Forum members and as active participants in the TMFU,
- Provide a focal point for news, views and issues,
- Provide a place where universities can interact with commercial interests to seek sponsorship for research work etc.,
- Provide a vehicle for the publication of papers,

Communications Convergence and Regulatory Policies
Professor Hosein Fallah leads a growing research program in Communications Convergence and Regulatory Policies. This is an area of great interest to academics and practitioners in the communications industries. Graduate students and Post-doctoral researchers can focus on specific issues related to the - Innovation and diffusion of wireless and broad band technologies
- Convergence of telecom, cable and broadcasting services
- Communications and tax policies
- Deregulation and quality of service
- Digital divide and developing countries
Professor Fallah has been conducting research on telecommunications policy issues in the State of New Jersey and provides advice to the New Jersey State League of Municipalities on communications policy issues. For more information contact Professor Fallah at 201-216-5018 (hfallah@stevens.edu).
Technology Clusters and Innovation
Professor Hosein Fallah leads a research program in the area of Technology Clusters and Innovation, focused on communications industry. A technological cluster is a geographical concentration of related technology firms including competitors, suppliers, distributors, and customers; usually around scientific research centers and universities. Well known clusters include Detroit for automotives, New York City for financial services and advertising, and Silicon Valley for electronics. Globalization of the value chain with increased outsourcing and off-shoring has resulted in emergence of new technology clusters around the world, e.g., Bangalore in India. Clustering creates externalities that could fuel innovation and drive economic growth. This has created strong interest by regional planners and policy makers around the world in strategies that promote development and growth of technology clusters they view vital to the economy of their regions. Graduate students and Post-doctoral researchers can focus on specific issues related to technology innovation, characterization and modeling of technology clusters, application of social networks, simulation and assessment of governmental policies and regional strategies on development and growth of technology clusters. For further information contact Professor Fallah at 201-21605018 (hfallah@stevens.edu).
