Curriculum Practical Training - Project Requirements

A 3-credit/term TM or MGT 800 is required in any term when an International graduate student is using CPT. As an alternative, a student may opt to undertake a 6-credit Masters thesis while on CPT. The independent study required with these options undertaken during the CPT, is the basis for the academic credit associated with the "curriculum practical training".

As part of the approval process for a CPT assignment, a faculty advisor and an industry (work) supervisor is assigned. The student is required to write a project paper and present it at the end of the term to a group consisting of the Program Director, assigned faculty supervisor, and other students who took CPT in the same term, and the associated project advisors.

Student project deliverables:

1. Written proposal for the topic of the project within 2 weeks of starting the CPT assignment. The proposal will be reviewed by the industry supervisor and the academic project advisor. Sign-off by both is required.
   
   
2. Written project plan for the project work including work items and due dates. The project plan will be reviewed by the industry supervisor and the academic project advisor. Sign-off by both is required.
   
   
3. Interim report of progress on the written project 6 weeks after the start of the CPT project.
   
   
4. Final written project paper and oral presentation to the faculty (see above) in the 13the week of the CPT project (end of term).
   
   
5. Grade assigned by the faculty project advisor on a per-term basis.
