Stevens Institute of Technology

Introducing the Babbio Center

Inspiring Leadership in Global Technology

Opened in the Spring of 2006, the Lawrence T. Babbio, Jr. Center for Technology Management, a six-story, 95,000 square foot structure serves as the new signature headquarters for the Wesley J. Howe School of Technology Management at Stevens Institute of Technology.

The Babbio Center is strategically located on the west bank of the Hudson River on historic Castle Point facing Manhattan and with views of Wall Street. Its award-winning design compliments the Stevens lower campus environment with elements from Hoboken’s urban grid and Stevens’ modern upper campus. The building is situated in an urban environment on a previously developed site that is within close proximity of all forms of mass transportation.

The construction of this new premier facility has been made possible by a generous personal gift from Lawrence T. Babbio, Jr., the Vice Chairman of Verizon and the Chairman of the Board of Stevens Institute, and additional contributions from strong Stevens supporters, including Verizon, Lucent, AT&T, the State of New Jersey and other esteemed Stevens alumni.

As the home of the Wesley J. Howe School, The Babbio Center will further reinforce Stevens’ global presence in the field of technology management education. Designed as a world-class infrastructure, the Babbio Center provides a technically advanced learning environment that promotes creative interaction while enabling wireless access to up-to-the-moment information. The center features:

  • 14 classrooms with varied levels of multimedia and distance learning capability
  • 125-seat auditorium
  • Main Atrium
  • Business and Technology Library
  • Graduate Student Study
  • 6 Conference centers
  • Business Research/Computer Lab
  • 10 Student Breakout Areas
  • Faculty, Staff and Student Offices
  • A highly flexible development space with capacity to respond to market needs
  • Technogenesis® Laboratory (made possible by a generous gift from the Stevens Class of 1971)

The Babbio Center was built with sustainable technologies, a showcase “environmentally conscious” structure. Click here for further information on architectural features, general building strategies and indoor guidelines.
