Project Management Professional (PMP)

Certification

Initial PMP Certification

The Project Management Institute (PMI) offers the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification. This is a valuable credential that you can earn and use on your resume. To sit for the PMP Exam you need to document practical project management work experience. You also need 35 contact hours in project management education. By taking the Stevens MGT 609 Introduction to Project Management course you earn the 35 contact hours that you need. Additionally in MGT 609 you will cover the material in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) Third Edition which is the basis for the PMP Exam. The main text in MGT 609 is considered supplemental reading by PMI for the PMP Exam. This 14 week course will give you the in-depth knowledge you need to sit for the PMP exam.

Stevens PMP Exam Prep Course
After completing MGT 609, students are encouraged to take the Stevens PMP Exam Prep course just prior to taking their PMP Exam. This course is a blend of in-class and online participtaion. The instructor reviews with you the relevant material that will appear on the PMP Exam in-class plus you can access an online test bank of questions to help you prepare for the exam. Pre- and post-course tests help you determine your readiness for taking the PMP Exam. Many students find this course a great help and confidence builder in preparing for the PMP Exam. The PMP Prep course provides an additional 20 contact hours in project management training.

Reporting PDUs

PMP applicants self document their PDUs on the Project Management Education Form of their PMP Credential Application. Since Stevens is an accredited university, you should enter choice "B" in the Category box to indicate that the PDUs were received from a university/college academic program. Check with the Project Management Institute (PMI) to obtain the PMP Credential Application.

PMP Re-Certification

Three years after you are first certified as a PMP, you will have to re-certify your PMP. You will need to show 60 additional PDUs for re-certification. By taking two courses in the Stevens Project Management Certificate you will earn another 35 PDUs per course or 70 PDUs - 10 more than are needed. Check with the Project Management Institute (PMI) for additional details on Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR).

Put Two Credentials On Your Resume

You should also complete the Stevens Project Management Graduate Certificate and enhance your knowledge of Strategic Project Management. Having both the Stevens Project Management Graduate Certificate and the PMP Certification on your resume will help you to be more effective in your current company and more marketable in the future.
