Center for Technology Management Research

Background

The Center for Technology Management Research was founded in 1997 to promote, administer, and disseminate research performed by Faculty of the Wesley J. Howe School of Technology Management. It reports to the dean of the school and is advised by an internal board of Faculty members and an external board of industry advisors. CTMR actively pursues funding opportunities in areas that support the school’s mission of research and education related to innovation and the management of technologies in the global economy. Combining the many talents of Faculty throughout the school, the center provides a fruitful environment for research and teaching, a focused approach to fund raising, and a vehicle for promoting the Howe School as a premiere research institution in our chosen area.

Activities

CTMR works closely with Howe School Alliance for Technology Management (HSATM), an industry-university partnership devoted to the identification, support, and dissemination of research performed by Howe School Faculty. The center recognizes and supports the need for individual Faculty to perform independent research in their own areas of interest. CTMR assists Faculty in identifying sources of funding and developing proposals. It provides summer research grants that are open to all Howe School Faculty on a competitive basis. CTMR also provides contacts with industry, runs research seminars, manages a working paper series, runs a Web site, and interfaces with Stevens Public Relations. CTMR conducts research on issues related to innovation and the management of technologies in a global context. Our mission is to develop concepts and frameworks to help executives address the challenges of a rapidly changing technology-based world. Research results are disseminated through publications, books, working papers, an annual conference, and sponsor forums.

CTMR supports the Stevens Institute of Technology theme of Technogenesis TM the educational frontier wherein Faculty, students and colleagues in industry jointly nurture the process of conception, design, and marketplace realization of new technologies.
