Why Information Systems ManagementIncreasingly, organizations need IS professionals who possess business and management ability along with their IT knowledge. Companies need managers who appreciate the organization’s mission, strategy and objectives, are aware of how the business works, and are able to manage effectively and influence decision makers in order to achieve the organization's aims; managers who can sit across the table from a group from an entirely different function of the business and speak their language.
The Stevens Information Systems Management program is a unique, 12-course sequence of courses that balances the requisite management and technical expertise necessary for today’s dynamic business and technical environment. The focus is on helping employees with strong technical expertise to be in a position to work more effectively and efficiently with their business partners. Many of our students are business people seeking to enhance their awareness of how to better leverage Information Technology in their firms.
With over 1,000 students currently enrolled, the MSIS is a recognized skill-building leader. Our faculty is distinguished and world-renowned. Most of the faculty has had senior IT executive positions as CIOs and Management Consultants. These IT leaders ensure that students learn practical, real-world insights that can be applied immediately to their organizations. Furthermore, with an entire group from the same company, we will gear the discussions to your industry and firm. Several of our MSIS partnerships have been in place for over ten years. To date, over 300 employees from each of these companies have enrolled.
The program evolved from a review by Stevens of industry and student needs. Classes combine lectures, cases, individual and team projects, and participant presentations. Many projects will be applicable directly to the participant's sponsoring organization's business needs. Instructors are nationally/internationally recognized experts in information technology, technology management, and business strategy. Instructors generally have substantial corporate experience and academic qualifications. Emphasis is placed on providing practical experience that can be applied immediately.
