Short Courses and Workshops

Stevens has developed short courses and workshops on specific HIT management topics of interest to both IT and healthcare professionals. These programs can be customized to fit your organization’s HIT education needs.

Patient-Centered e-Health

  • Personal Health Records (PHRs)
Patient-controlled PHRs are among the goals of HITECH funding. Adoption and implementation challenges will be discussed from multiple perspectives—patients, healthcare providers, and public health officials.
  • Telehealth and Remote Disease Monitoring Trends
Easy-to-use technology and ubiquitous connections to the Internet are resulting in new ways for patients to participate in monitoring their own health in their homes – or on-the-road.

Clinical System Implementations

  • The Challenges of Implementing CPOE Systems
Computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems with advanced decision support can provide some of the greatest benefits. Best practices for implementation are discussed.
  • COWs, Tablets, and Handhelds
Easy-to-use computer-on-wheels, other portable devices and wireless networks support point-of-care access to patient information and communications. Case examples demonstrate the pros and cons of alternative solutions.
  • Preparing for Clinician Workflow Changes
Successful implementations of clinical applications require significant attention to how clinician workflows can be changed to best leverage the new IT capabilities and improve healthcare outcomes.
  • Why Software Implementations Succeed—or Fail
Not all Healthcare IT implementations are successful. Key factors for successful approaches for selecting and implementing packaged software for in-patient and ambulatory settings are examined.

Information Sharing Across Healthcare Stakeholders

  • The Healthcare Value Chain
The IT role as an enabler of communications and information sharing is examined from a multi-stakeholder perspective including providers, insurers/payers, government regulators, equipment & drug suppliers, and patients.
  • Healthcare Information Exchanges
The potential benefits and the key issues for successful HIE implementations are examined—including how to achieve benefits for different stakeholders without sacrificing patient privacy.
