James M. Walsh

Managing Principal, Walsh Advisors, LLC


 

Jim Walsh is a financial services executive with capital markets, private equity and asset management experience in the US, Europe and Asia. 


Since 2002 he has been a Managing Principal of Walsh Advisors, LLC marketing alternative investment solutions to international institutions, advising on private equity investments, providing strategic advice and raising capital for technology companies.  As an advisor to alternative asset managers, the firm concentrates on institutional marketing in Asia.


Jim served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of Gramercy Venture Advisors, an advisory and private equity firm with focus domains of sustainability and digital media technology.  He is a former director and advisor to the board of Equus Total Return, Inc. (NYSE: EQS) a Houston-based private equity fund. 


In 1996 Jim was appointed as Chief Operating Officer of Société Générale Securities Corporation where he helped to define the Société Générale expansion in the U.S. and managed the daily business of SGSC.  In 1998 he helped to craft the acquisition of Cowen & Co., and co-managed the 110-person transition team that created SG Cowen Securities. 


From 1984 to 1995 Jim was based in Tokyo for Credit Suisse First Boston (1984 – 90) and Prudential Securities Incorporated (1990 – 95).  At Prudential he served as the Asia Pacific Regional Director and managed the expansion of capital markets transactions and private client business throughout the region, and commodities trading in China.  He opened offices in China and acquired a full service securities firm in Australia.


Jim spent fourteen years (1976–90) at The First Boston Corporation and Credit Suisse First Boston in senior positions in New York, London and Tokyo.  From 1984 to 1990 Jim established CSFB subsidiaries in Japan and Hong Kong, obtained memberships on exchanges in the region and scaled the business to support these initiatives.  Prior to moving to Asia Jim managed the global capital markets new business effort for CSFB and served on the CSFB Executive Committee.  He had been co-head of the First Boston Capital Markets Group.


He has an MBA from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, and a BS and MS in physics from Stevens Institute of Technology where he serves on the Board of Trustees.


Jim is a member of the Board of Governors of the Foreign Policy Association.  He has been an Associated Member of the New York Stock Exchange and served on the NYSE New York Area Firms Advisory Committee.


He is a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (1984 – present) and is a past member of its Board of Governors.  He is a member of the Edgartown Yacht Club, the Vineyard Golf Club, the Tokyo Club, the Tokyo American Club and the Tokyo Lawn Tennis Club.
