Lawrence Gastwirt, Director, Stevens Alliance for Technology Management

 

Lawrence Gastwirt has been leading the Alliance since 1992. Larry came to Stevens after a 30-year career with Exxon (now ExxonMobil) Chemical Company. As an executive in the chemical industry, he managed large multi-national technology organizations, as well as technology-intensive business operations of global scope. His areas of expertise include new product and new business development, product and project management, strategic planning, industrial R&D management, strategic alliances, and intellectual property licensing and protection.


Upon his retirement from Exxon Chemical in 1992, Larry was appointed Affiliate Professor of Management and Engineering Management at Stevens Institute of Technology and Director of the Stevens Alliance for Technology Management. Larry also served for 12 years on the Board of the Stevens Technology Ventures Incubator, in which role he helped guide many early-stage technology companies.


Larry is co-author of the book, "Turning Research and Development into Profits -- A Systematic Approach", published by the American Management Association. He holds a B.Ch.E. degree from City College of New York, M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University in Chemical Engineering, and an MBA from NYU in Finance and Economics.

Lemuel A. Tarshis, Director, Management Technology Transfer

 

Lemuel Tarshis has had an industrial career of over 25 years of progressively responsible positions including general management, new product development, project management, strategic planning and R&D management. His experience is diversified, international and multifunctional, in the communications, electronics, consumer products, materials and related industries.


Lem started his industrial career with General Electric, rising through technical and business positions to become General Manager of the Housewares and Audio Business Division. He then served as Executive Vice President of Timex Corporation, and Vice President and General Manager, Communications Systems, for Times Fiber Communications. For General Instrument Corporation, Lem held the positions of Corporate Vice President, Business Development, and Vice President and General Manager, Distribution Systems Division.


Lem came to Stevens Institute in 1991, as Director, Design and Manufacturing Institute, and Research Professor in the Howe School of Technology Management. He has served since the inception of the Alliance as its Director of Management Technology Transfer. He has a consulting practice in the areas of innovation, product development, strategic planning, organization, and technology application.


Lem holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford University, and MBA (equivalent) management courses from General Electric Executive Institute, Stanford University, and the Wharton School.
