Roundtable Feb 2006

The first Roundtable meeting of 2006 will be held on Wednesday, February 15 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal.

Understanding Creativity to Enhance Innovation

Last year's Roundtable meetings, and our 2005 Conference, were devoted to a comprehensive examination of the general theme of innovation. Continuing our efforts to achieve a deeper understanding of innovation in order to better systematize this important process, we begin this yearˇ¦s series with an overview of creativity and the role it plays in the innovation process. Innovation begins with a creative idea, and only comes to fruition when considerable creativity is applied to develop and refine that idea. But creativity, both as the "eureka moment" itself and as a cognitive process, remains a mystery to many. In this Roundtable meeting, we will lay a foundation upon which to build both understanding and ability. Principal questions to be addressed include:

  • What is creativity and who has it?
  • Why does it seem so elusive? Is there a creative process?
  • In what ways might we achieve breakthroughs in thinking?
  • What keeps us from being more creative?

We have opted for considerable breadth in this first session in order to uncover the specific interests and needs of Alliance organizations and to shape the agenda for subsequent meetings in the series. Our facilitator is Anthony (Tony) Le Storti, former director of the Center for Creative Studies and principal at IDEATECTS, Inc. Tony is a highly regarded authority in the fields of innovation, creativity, leadership and thinking skills. He played a similar role at last yearˇ¦s opening meeting and was given high marks by attendees for his dynamic and knowledgeable presentation. We look forward to an exciting exchange over this somewhat mysterious, yet crucial phenomenon. Dress code is business casual. Please notify Sharen Glennon (sglennon@stevens.edu or 201-216-5381) of your attendance, and please circulate to colleagues who may be interested.Directions to Picatinny Arsenal will follow; please plan to arrive at Picatinny by 1:30 to complete check-in procedures.
