The next Howe School Alliance Roundtable meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 23 at the Linden, NJ facility of Infineum (1900 East Linden Avenue, Linden, NJ) from 12:30-4:00 PM. A networking luncheon will be served 11:30-12:30.

Change Strategies in Pursuit of Innovation: Open Innovation
We began considering open innovation at our July Roundtable meeting, in the context of exploring strategies in pursuit of innovation. The subject generated great interest and passion, and the September meeting will continue with the topic.
Open Innovation is a formal process/model to connect with the outside world. Implicit in open innovation is the assumption that even the most capable organizations must identify, connect to, and leverage external knowledge sources as a core process in innovation, recognizing that valuable ideas can come from inside or outside the company and can go to market from inside or outside the company as well. Although collaboration, internal and external, has long been a strategy of organizations, the potential of open innovation has been expanded many-fold by the Internet. And yet, despite its great potential, open innovation brings its own set of challenges, many of which revolve around the issues of intellectual property management and control of proprietary intelligence.
Tony Le Storti of IDEATECTS and Roy Nicolosi of ISO will facilitate the first part of the session, providing the bridge from what was already discussed to what we will cover in the current meeting. In the second part of the meeting, Don Gulliksen of JTSI will facilitate discussion of a key issue associated with open innovation, how organizations can work in virtual space. In addition, a speaker from IBM will describe how open innovation was applied in the development of the Linux Operating System, whose development and subsequent continuous improvement by a zealous band of developers throughout the world is regarded as an exemplary illustration of open innovation.
The meeting will begin at 12:30 PM. A luncheon will be available from 11:30 PM, to afford the opportunity to network with other Alliance Partners. (Please note that the start time is one hour earlier than prior meetings, and the meeting will end 30 minutes earlier than usual. This change, which was made by consensus decision of the Alliance Partners, gives us 30 minutes more discussion time while allowing us to get on our ways 30 minutes earlier).
