Strategic Alignment Maturity Model

A project led by Professor J. Luftman and David Dell, Research Director of the Conference Board, aims to develop a methodology for managing the development of the strategic capabilities of firms. The approach is modeled after the well-known Capability Maturity Model (CMM), which has been used successfully by many organizations to measure the effectiveness of their software development processes. This research is supported by the Conference Board and the Society for Information Management.

Specifically, the strategic alignment maturity assessment instrument allows companies to identify opportunities for enhancing IT-Business integration. The Conference Board/SIM Working Group study will address the following issues:

  • How well are the business and IT organizations aligned with each other?

  • How do IT relationships with key constituencies within their organization vary?

  • What can be done to improve and sustain alignment?

  • How do business partners and enterprises as a whole regard IT business alignment?
